Attendance at Scunthorpe C of E
At Scunthorpe Church of England Primary School, we seek to ensure that all pupils receive a full-time education which maximises opportunities for each pupil to realise their true potential. The school will strive to provide a welcoming, caring environment, whereby each member of the school community feels welcome and secure. All school staff will work with pupils and their families to ensure each pupil attends school regularly and punctually.
We have established an effective system of incentives and rewards that acknowledges the efforts of pupils to improve their attendance and timekeeping and will always challenge the behaviour of those pupils and parents who give low priority to attendance and punctuality.
Below is our quick guide to attendance at Scunthorpe C of E:-
Punctuality
The school day starts promptly at 8.45 a.m. If a child arrives at school after 8.45 a.m. without prior arrangements having been agreed, he/she will be deemed late. Registers close at 9.00 a.m. and arrival at school after this time, without prior approval or extenuating circumstances, will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
Leave of absence during term time.
We understand that there may be a temptation to take children on a holiday during term time. However, whilst we recognise there will be a need and benefit to this, we must also stress the importance of children attending school regularly.
Government policy is clear; attendance at school is a national priority and ensuring regular attendance is a legal responsibility of parents/carers. Therefore, we thought it was important to remind you of the legislation and potential consequences of any unauthorised absence during term time. This means that absence during term time is only permitted in ‘exceptional circumstances’. This does not typically include holidays.
