Children's University at Scunthorpe Church Of England Primary

Children in Year 4,5, and 6 who commit to taking part in Children's University receive a Learning Passport.
Why we partner with Children's University.
Here at Scunthorpe Cof E we partner with our local Children's University hub to provide opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. We understand that by the time a child turns 18, they will have spent just 9% of their waking life in a classroom. Our partnership with Children’s University is about making the most of the remaining 91% and that is where Children's University comes in.
Research shows that participation in extra-curricular activities can positively impact on attainment, increase a pupil’s positive identification with school, and build self-confidence and resilience. Research also shows that children that do not have access to these opportunities fall behind, lack confidence, and fail to develop career aspirations.
As part of our CU work each child in Years 4,5,6 commits to the programme and in doing so receives a passport where they will record ,in hours, their time learning beyond the classroom. Once they have received a certain amount of hours they will then be awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award and attend a graduation ceremony at the end of each academic year where their commitment is acknowledged and celebrated.
